What is quilting?

Quilting is a process of sewing textiles with interlayers using long needles to secure the cotton fibers inside.Quilted products are usually composed of three layers of materials: fabric, filler, and backing. The shape of the filler can vary, ranging from fluff to loose fibers. During use, the quilted fabric can easily become uneven in shape, flow, shrink, and become uneven in thickness due to long-term use, turning, and friction.

In order to make the outer fabric of the bedding and the inner core of the filling adhere tightly and fix, and make the thickness of the filling uniform, the stitches of the sewing thread are used to combine the three layers of materials into various patterns that are arranged randomly, independently, or in a regular repeating pattern, and firmly sew the three layers of materials together.
These sewing thread graphic trajectories can not only prevent the movement of fillers (such as spray-bonded cotton, silk, down, etc.), but also enhance the three-dimensional effect of the sewn product, making it have good decorative functions at the same time.

Common quilted fabrics

  1. 100% cotton

Clothes or supplies with a cotton content of 100% are generally made of flat cloth, poplin, twill, labor cloth, etc. Unlike ordinary fabrics, they have the advantages of odor prevention, breathability, and comfort. Try not to use washing powder, and it is best to use transparent soap.

  1. Cotton and polyester

Cotton-polyester fabrics are made from both cotton and polyester fibers, with cotton being the primary constituent. Polyester cotton blended fabric comprises of 65-70% cotton fibers merged together and 33-55% polyester fibers mixed in, commonly known as cotton polyester (the opposite of polyester cotton).

  1. Polyester fiber

Polyester fiber is the most important variety of synthetic fiber, with the scientific name of “polyester fiber”.The fabric is strong and elastic, and is the best anti-wrinkle fabric among all fibers. It is heat and light resistant, and has good one-time setting performance.

  1. Viscose filament

It is made from natural cellulose as raw material, through alkalization, aging, yellowing and other processes to produce soluble cellulose xanthate, which is then dissolved in dilute alkali solution to make viscose, and finally spun by wet spinning.

  1. Polyester

Polyester is an important variety of synthetic fiber, with the simplest process among the three major synthetic fibers and relatively cheap price.Furthermore, it is durable, elastic, resistant to deformation, corrosion, insulation, crisp, easy to wash and dry, and other characteristics that make it popular among people.

5. Polypropylene fiber

The characteristics of quilted fabrics are thick density, strong warmth retention, and beautiful appearance, which are much more complex than ordinary cotton craftsmanship.

With the advancement of technology, more and more materials are being discovered, and more and more fabrics are available on the market. In our daily production, we generally purchase corresponding materials according to the customer’s usage requirements, and make corresponding products based on the characteristics of different materials to maximize the advantages of the materials themselves.
