What’s Oxford cloth? Oxford cloth, also known as Oxford weave or Oxford cloth weave, is of British origin. In 1900, a very small group of students at Oxford University, to resist the fancy and extravagant style of dress, adopted combed cotton to design and process a fabric that had a two-tone effect in calm and soft tones, which was breathable, comfortable, and natural. In such a push, this fabric became the special fabric used to make Oxford University uniforms and was popular in Europe and later called Oxford cloth. Oxford cloth doesn’t mean the composed fabric and it implies the weave ways of the fabric, which is similar to youth cloth, Mithun cloth, denim, flannel, etc.

What’s Oxford Cloth?

Oxford cloth is a fabric used to make shirts and has a soft touch with a plain or square weave structure. Usually, Oxford cloth adopts polyester or polyester blended cotton with cotton yarn crossing in plain or square weave by adopting weft-heavy or square-flat organization. The weft-heavy organization adopted a finely combed high-count yarn as double warp and crossed with coarse woof. Therefore, canvas cloth is delicate in color, soft to the touch, breathable, and comfortable. Usually, canvas cloth is used to make shirts, sportswear, pajamas, etc. Various types of products are made of canvas cloth in plain colors, bleached, color by white weft, color by color weft, light and medium color striped pattern; They are also woven with polyester cotton yarn. Types of Oxford Cloth

Oxford fabric, also known as Oxford weave or Oxford cloth weave, is a multifunctional and widely used fabric that can be divided into overlaid Oxford fabric, nylon Oxford fabric, full-stretch Oxford fabric, jacquard Oxford fabric, and weft strip Oxford fabric.

Overlaid Oxford fabric is light, thin, soft to the touch, excellent waterproof, and abrasion resistant, which is the best fabric for making bags or luggage in common fabrics. Nylon Oxford fabric is great in draping, excellent waterproof, no fading and deformation, and is often used to make flood and rain protection products. Full-stretch Oxford fabric has a fashionable and chic appearance with a fine texture, mainly used to make women’s bags. Jacquard Oxford fabric has a unique craft with a three-dimensional effect and the back is coated, which can make bags or luggage much stronger and waterproof. Weft stripe Oxford fabric has clear stripes and draping, which not only can be used to make bags or luggage but also can be used to make casual shoes.

1.        Overlaid Oxford fabric

The warp and weft of overlaid Oxford woven fabric are made of polyester, which is specially used to make various bags and luggage. The fabric is woven by applying plain weave in a water jet loom, and the warp and weft density should be 360X210, and the blank fabric is treated by relaxation, alkali amount, dyeing, anti-static, coating, etc. Therefore, Oxford bags or luggage made of overlaid Oxford fabric are the best and most common.

2.        Nylon Oxford fabric

Generally, nylon oxford fabric is used to make flood and rain protection products. Typically, the warp of nylon oxford fabric is made of 200D nylon hollow yarns and the weft is made of 160D nylon hollow yarns. The fabric is made by water jet weaving with a plain weave. In addition, the blank fabric is treated by dyeing and coating, which makes it soft to the touch, great draping, novel in style, excellent waterproof, etc. Nylon Oxford fabric has a lustrous effect and is popular among users for its quality and novel colors.

The width of the fabric should be 150cm. As we know, nylon oxford fabric does not fade and deform over other fabrics in the market. There are many colors like navy blue, light black, tiger yellow, dark green, etc.

3.        Full-stretch Oxford fabric

Full-stretch Oxford fabric is commonly used to make women’s bags and luggage. The warp and weft of full-stretch Oxford fabric is made of DTY300D polyester and is woven on water jet looms with selected coarse point change translucent fabric. Therefore, this fabric is treated by relaxation refining, predetermined type, alkali reduction, soft stereotypes, the reverse side of the fabric, and then by the rubber polyester layer. Its weaving pattern is delicate, has soft luster, good waterproof, the bags made of this product are the pets of fashion pursued by the dress ladies. The width of the fabric is 150cm.

4.    Jacquard Oxford fabric

Jacquard Oxford fabric is used to make various bags and luggage. Usually, the warp of Jacquard Oxford fabric is made of DTY400D polyester mesh and the weft is made of DTY400D polyester yarn. Adopted jacquard weave and woven on a water jet (with tap) loom.

Therefore, Jacquard Oxford fabric is novel in design and has a unique craft with conveys jacquard texture on the front side, which has a three-dimensional effect, becoming the standing part of the fabric. At the same time, the back side is coated (PU), which can make Jacquard Oxford fabric have better waterproofing and draping. Therefore, Jacquard Oxford fabric is a fashionable fabric for making various bags and luggage.

5.    Weft stripe Oxford fabric

Also used to make various bags and luggage. The warp of Oxford striped fabric is made of FDY68D/24F polyester and the weft is made of FDY150D/36F polyester. The weaving process uses weft raisers interwoven by water jet weaving (with a dobby). As a result, this fabric has clear stripes and combines modern, art and drape in one. The blank fabric is treated by dyeing, embossing, or expanding, which can make this fabric have better draping and waterproofing.
